Camping in the forest

Easter weekend: The one weekend in the year where it is bound to rain wherever we choose to camp. We’ve had some rough experiences over the last couple of years: thunder storms that sounded as though lightning was striking our tent, being completely flooded in icy weather and not seeing the sun for days on end. By now we are prepared for the worst, yet every year we manage to convince ourselves that luck will turn in our favour and we go camping again.

So when looking for the perfect (non-weather-dependent) spot to rest for a few days and appreciate the blessing of life, we came to hear about a relatively new SANParks camping spot on decks in the Knysna forest – with the option of already set-up safari tents. Hello! I booked that very day.

Diepwalle forest station camping decks, situated at Knysna Lakes is part of the Garden Route National Park. It is the most ideal, dreamy, stunning, perfect camping spot you could imagine – come rain (which it did) or shine.  All the camp sites are on wooden decks, connected by boardwalks leading into the forest. Each site includes a mini fridge, fancy built-in braai, sheltered rustic counter, log stools and electricity.

After a bumpy start (with a double booking resulting in all of us having to squeeze into one tent on the first night) we were finally able to relax and enjoy all aspects of the camp. The camp site is surrounded by dense forest, and picturesque hiking trails, which supplied these beautiful scenes where our forest picture story plays out. We cannot wait to go back!
